As for your antipathy towards opera, I think all it would require for you is to see a truly great performance/production, and I think you'd be hooked even worse than you are on musical theater and ballet. Unfortunately, that can be a double-edged sword since it's so damned expensive. If something is "great" this fall at the San Francisco Opera (and that is a rarer occurrence than is commonly known being that opera productions are genuinely a crapshoot), I'll be sure to drag you to a performance.
