The Silly Side of the Olympics August 19, 2008
No, I’m not talking about the underage Chinese gymnasts being declared as over 16… Chalk it up to an early morning, but I was amused by the campiness of this segment with the only North American qualifier for the rhythmic gymnastics event, Alexandra Orlando.
Sorry for the lack of posts lately. I’ve been swept up in family things and a surprising but nice breakthrough at work on an experiment I’ve been working on for the past seven months. You know the quote, “Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results” by Albert Einstein? That was my work life, literally doing this finicky week-long experiment hundreds of times until yesterday. Just wanted to share the good news with you all, I hope this streak continues!
Enjoy the vid! Reviews coming on ABT’s Etudes and Tharp’s R&R, Drowsy Chaperone (speaking of campy charm), and I still wanted to blog about the ACSO conference.

While I’m all for the reportors trying the sport but I think they went a little overboard and are almost mocking the sport…
arg Elfie… I wish they’d get another female perspective.
Sometimes the commentators remind me of the judges on the reality dance TV shows, which I can NOT stand. The commentators aren’t as bad though, and I rely on them to explain things I don’t recognize, especially in men’s gymnastics when they “fail” to execute something, I usually miss it.
LOL see I don’t have that problem, though Men’s gymnastics is “harder” for me than women’s but that’s because I have more experience with Women’s. I can’t stand Al Tragwig (the other male on NBC). He’s annoying as all get out…
What I don’t get is why Elfie Scheligal (the female commentator on NBC) had to commentate for Rhythmic gymnastics… She’s an artistic gymnast not rhythmic but maybe she just annoys me LOL.
When I watch gymnastics, I usually mute it because I mostly can’t stand the commentators except for Tim Daggett. I wish NBC would get some “newer” gymnast commentators like John Rothlisburger, Shannon Miller… get a little more up to date with gymnasts (Tim and Elfie competed in the 1980s)
